WOW…you guys…I cannot believe the amount of support form my last post. All of your calls, texts, comments, messages, etc, really means the world to me, and I read (and responded) to every. single. one. I sincerely appreciate it.
As far as Greg & I go, we’re doing well. We took this past Saturday to get back to US…and get grounded in our marriage again. They do say that the first year is the toughest…but we communicate VERY well, so it’s just going to be that much easier to get back to where we were. AND! What better way to get grounded than to go kayaking in WATER? I mean really – how beautiful was this VIEW?!?!?
ANYWAY…We went over to the Reservoir, and rented a Tandem Kayak from Greenwood Lake Paddleboards. Since I had never stepped foot into a kayak, I had a LOT of questions (and concerns), and they were SUPER willing to help me out and talk me through it all. I HIGHLY recommend them (and we will be back!!).
We ended up renting the kayak for 2 hours… You CAN rent them for up to 4 hours, but I didn’t think I would last that long (since I was so new). Once I was in the kayak (I was in the front, Greg was in the back), I FREAKED OUT for the first ten minutes. No joke. I thought I was going to tip into the lake, and I’d have to swim ashore. Ew. My BFF refers to lakes as a “giant puddle”. I don’t think she’s wrong…and the reservoir really IS pretty, but it IS a giant puddle.
I toughed it out grew some balls and (with the help of my WONDERFUL husband) began paddling and having a blast around the reservoir. Honestly? The first thing that popped in my head when we were kayaking around the reservoir? Marriage Bootcamp on WE TV. Yup. Didn’t the show have the contestants kayak or canoe (blindfolded) to force them to work on their communication skills? I feel like that was a thing…
Moving on… (LOL)
Greg and I communicate really really well, so that wasn’t an issue for us…you guys, no joke, Greg talked me through it the whole time. He taught me something new…which (if you REALLY know me), isn’t an easy thing to do because I don’t take criticism well at ALL. I’m VERY thankful for this husband of mine… #blessed.
Did I mention, while we were out on the water (just floating aboot)….a dragonfly landed on the end of the kayak? So cuuuute!
Also…? Some history and trivia for you? You know, for the next time you’re in a bar, and playing trivia?
According to the Monksville Reservoir’s Unofficial Facebook page (and Greg, as we’re in the lake floating around)… The Monksville Reservoir is an artificial lake created in 1987 by damming on the Wanaque River in West Milford, New Jersey. It is named after the former community of Monksville, which was relocated and flooded upon its completion. Did you know that???? If you’re from the area, and driving around the reservoir, there are two roads which lead INTO the water…see if you can see/find them the next time you’re there…
Side note…their FB page isn’t exactly up to date…so I found this NorthJersey.com article for your reading pleasure…it shows some images of what the Monksville community looked like BEFORE the reservoir was finalized.
Pretty neat, huh? #nerdalert
Like I said – thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for all your support from the Baby Conversation post…it means the world…
Here’s a panoramic view of the reservoir…for your viewing pleasure 🙂
